Memorial Day feels different for me this year.
I don’t know about you, but I’m remembering more people lost to suicide than in combat today.
I have more questions.
I’m thinking about all the men and women who died fighting a silently-failing, 20-year war.
I’m thinking about the 13 young troops lost last August, trying to clean up the mess of the previous generation.
And the 22 veterans a day we lose to mental health issues at home.
George Patton said, “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived.”
But I have to disagree with G on the first part.
I will mourn the men and women who died today and I will keep questioning why they had to die.
Happy Memorial Day to you and yours. <3
