After 9 months of hell, I finally fixed my gut health with these two things.
When endless supplementation, nasty diets, and a colonoscopy didn’t cure my chronic bloating, indigestions, and constipation,
I took matters into my own hands.
I got to work researching and headed down the rabbit hole that is- Facebook group comments.
Yes, you read that right.
I joined every Facebook group I could find on IBS and SIBO.
I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled, reading every question AND every suggestion in the comments-
I was hoping to find someone with the same issues as me and a solution to match it.
Then one night at midnight, I did.
I read about a thing called motility.
Motility is the ability of the digestive tract to undergo contractions and digest food.
If your motility is compromised, this puts you at risk for bacterial overgrowth in the small intestines, which can cause SIBO, bloating, and constipation.
Somehow, I just NEW this was my issue. (A girl’s intuition is never wrong, am I right?)
I read in the comments about a medication that could help motility. It was called Motegrity- I researched everything about it and realized THAT was what I was needed. (This is not medical advice, just my experience).
Then began months of trying to get into my GI doctor and advocating for myself relentlessly to get this medication.
I’ll always remember, June 19th, 2019, I was prescribed the medication I needed, and began to heal.
This, not only, provided me with significant relief but CONFIRMED that I finally KNEW what my digestive issue was- motility.
After a few nights of Facebook stalking, I solved what a team of doctors couldn’t do with endless tests and colonoscopy.
I understand now (from even more online reading) that there is a complex interplay between the nervous system and the digestive tract.
You can’t digest food if you’re stuck in flight or fight mode-
chronic stress and anxiety are the ROOT cause of my issues.
Now, I work every day not only to support my digestion with healthy foods and supplements but more importantly, to regulate my stress and mental health.
The lesson here is to never stop medically advocating for yourself.
If you feel like something is wrong, it’s because it is.
Whether it’s digestion, fatigue, hormonal issues, hair loss, low libido, or difficulty losing weight- you deserve the support of an attentive professional who’s been there.
That’s what me and my team do here at Fit To Lead.
